Mahto was bred in captivity and used in educational programs at a wildlife museum.
As she grew up and matured she no longer wanted to participate in programs and we were contacted to provide permanent sanctuary for the black bear.
As she was bred in captivity it is illegal and unethical to release her to the wild, so she will be with us the rest of her life.
Today, Mahto is a sweet natured bear who loves nothing more than splashing in her pool, lounging in her hammock, disassembling her toys…and eating.
